Too many voice teachers focus on what a singer cannot do. Jeff Ballard focuses on what each student can do. He begins where they are and builds on that, challenge by challenge, until his students find themselves singing at levels they never thought possible. A member of a local high school show choir was told, at age 16, that she needed surgery on her vocal cords. I suggested to her mother that before taking that drastic and irreversible step that they get a second opinion from Jeff Ballard, who was helping me with vocal rehabilitation. Dr. Ballard [Jeff] was able to help the young singer improve her vocal technique so that she was able to sing comfortably, and the surgery was no longer deemed necessary.
